Dr. Stewart Harris

Dr. Stewart B. Harris, MD, MPH, FCFP, FACPM
Rank: Professor, Department of Family Medicine with cross appointments in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the Division of Endocrinology
Location: Centre for Studies in Family Medicine
St. Joseph Family Medical Centre
Clinical Interests: Medical Director of the Primary Care Diabetes Program at the St. Joseph’s Family Medical/Dental Centre, London. He was the Chair of the 2003 Clinical Practice Guidelines expert committee for the Canadian Diabetes Association and has been Chair and Vice-Chair for the Clinical and Scientific Section of the Canadian Diabetes Association.
Educational/Research
Interests:
Dr. Harris conducts research with a focus on Type 2 diabetes in high-risk populations including Aboriginal Canadians, vulnerable populations, the application of clinical practice guidelines for the management of diabetes in primary care, and evaluation of primary care reform.
Awards Received:
  • Dean’s Award of Excellence – Team Award for the Centre for Studies in Family Medicine – co-recipient (2010)
  • The College of Family Physicians of Canada Outstanding Family Medicine Research Article (2009) 
  • Canadian Diabetes Association Chair in Diabetes Management, The University of Western Ontario to advance the treatment and management of diabetes in Canada (2008-2013)
  • Canadian Diabetes Association, Dr. Gerald S. Wong Service Award (2007)
  • The Peter F. Drucker Award for Canadian Nonprofit Innovation (2002)
  • Ian McWhinney Chair in Family Medicine Studies, which will facilitate his existing research programs  (2001-2016)
  • Dr. Ian McWhinney Teaching Award for Excellence Post- graduate Teaching (1999)
  • Career Scientist Award from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (1997-2004)
