The admission standards of the program are equivalent to the Graduate Studies Faculty at large. Student applicants are required to have a "B" standard in their undergraduate work, to have successfully completed an MD program, and to have completed the residency training in Family Medicine that leads to certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada or its equivalent in other countries around the world. (Eligibility requires completion of a recognized residency program or five years in family practice).
While It is desirable that the students have some clinical practice experience before entering the program, Interested individuals with a clear career track in academic family medicine may be admitted to the program following the completion of their residency training program. Applicants will no longer require an Ontario general licence/educational licence as any clinically associated work will be conducted in their home setting.
Admission Procedure
Applications may be submitted any time of year, however, the main stream of courses begin every September. This program requires that students attend a two-week on-site session at the University of Western Ontario at least two out of three years. Along with the on line application form, the student is required to submit two letters of reference (referee letters will be emailed to reference names on application) and an official sealed copy of their latest transcripts. Applicants must have a minimum of a "B" average during the final two years of an honors program (or equivalent) to be considered for admission. International applicants whose first language is not English are required to furnish evidence of their proficiency in English by satisfactory completion of a TOEFL or equivalent test.
