Windsor Program Curriculum

Features of our Windsor Program

  • Training in urban and suburban community practices
  • Ample elective opportunities during and outside of family medicine block time with teaching faculty who have a wide variety of special interests
  • Experience interdisciplinary care while working with nurse practitioners, pharmacists, physiotherapists

The Windsor program has an integrated 2-year curriculum. There are electronic medical resources for residents, including computer and internet access, and standard medical resources in each core Family Medicine training site.

Other mandatory requirements for completion of residency

  • Residency project
    • Choices: clinical audit, case report, clinical research project, comprehensive literature review, major essay, other (requires approval from family medicine preceptor)
    • Resident will present project either as a poster or presentation
  • Academic program
    • Every Wednesday afternoon (on or off-service) will be protected for completion of the academic program
    • Must complete a minimum number of credits; minimum credit requirements exist for certain topics to ensure full coverage of topics to be learned
    • Credits can be accumulated via self-directed learning or attending pre-scheduled teaching sessions on Wednesday afternoons
    • Activities are logged online in order to receive credits
    • Participation in Behavioural Medicine and Ethics Curriculum
  • Procedures and obstetrics delivery log
    • Allows residents to track their own learning
    • Helps accomplish delivery targets
  • Family medicine-obstetrics requirement
    • All residents must do a minimum of 4-week experience with a family physician who practices intrapartum obstetrics.
    • Residents have the following options to fulfill this requirement:
      • Complete their PGY2 rural family medicine rotations with a preceptor who practices intrapartum obstetrics
      • Use either their PGY1 family medicine selective, PGY1 family medicine elective or PGY2 electives to do a 4-week rotation with a family physician who practices intrapartum obstetrics.
