Years 1 & 2

Dr. Victor Johnson Student Research Award

Awarded to 1st or 2nd year medical students who wish to pursue research interests in Family Medicine. The research project/study would take place through the Department of Family Medicine, at various University sites here in London over the summer. Your research interests will be matched to suitable faculty member if you do not have faculty advisor when applying.

Application: Written outline of research interests and proposal for summer required. Apply for this award.
Award: Funding for summer.
Deadline: May 1
Selection: Up to 2 awards may be given each year. Selection is recommended by the Chair of Family Medicine. Selection is reviewed and approved by Dean, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.

Year 3 Clerkship

 

 

Martin Bass Clerkship Award in Family medicine

This award is given at the end of year 3 to student who best exemplifies the physician roles as outlined in the Schulich Medicine curriculum.

Application: Nominated by preceptor during 6 week clerkship rotation
Award: $1,000
Deadline: August 31
Selection: Selection is recommended by the Family Medicine Undergraduate Committee

Frank R. Clegg Award

This award is given to year 3 clerk achieving the best balance of high academic standing and those qualities of compassion and personal commitment generally regarded as essential to fulfillment of a role as a good physician, as judged by the departments of Family Medicine, Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry and Surgery.

Application: Nominated by preceptor during 6 week clerkship rotation
Award: $750
Deadline: August 31
Selection: Selection is recommended by the Family Medicine Undergraduate Committee. Final award selection by the Schulich Committee.

I. W. Mann Award

Awarded to year 3 clerk showing superior achievement in studies in Family Medicine and demonstrating personal monetary need.

Application: Nominated by preceptor during 6 week clerkship rotation
Award: Two awards of $350.00 each.
Deadline: August 31
Selection: Selection is recommended by the Family Medicine Undergraduate Committee

Year 4 Electives

R. A. Kinch Award

This award is given to a 4th year medical student who demonstrates the greatest competence in the community aspects of medicine as determined by the Department of Family Medicine.

Application: Nominated by preceptor during elective
Award: $375
Deadline: April 15
Selection: Selection is recommended by the Family Medicine Undergraduate Committee

Theo Mary Anderson Award

To be awarded annually to a year 4 medical student showing superior achievement in studies in Family Medicine as determined by the department of Family Medicine:
  1. Excellent performance evaluations in clerkship
  2. Excellent performance in 4th yr selectives and electives in the later part of Phase IV
  3. Successful match to a Family Medicine residency program.
Application: Nominated by preceptor during elective
Award: $600
Deadline: April 15

CFPC Medical Student Leadership Award

CFPC Leadership Award Nomination Form for Faculty

Awarded to a 4th year medical student who has demonstrated interest and skill in areas such as health care policy or economics, government/media relations, advocacy and representation on behalf of patients, peers or healthcare organizations. Student will have a commitment or interest in a career in family practice.

Eligibility Criteria: Currently enrolled in year 4, matched to a Family Medicine Residency Program in Canada, Demonstrated leadership abilities and activities at Schulich and other organizations.
Application: Nominated by faculty or fellow student. Describe in 1 page maximum how candidate has demonstrated leadership ability, interest and skills in area such as health care policy/economics, government/media relations, advocacy and representation on behalf of patients, peers or healthcare organizations through the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and other organizations.
Award: Award recipients will be invited to attend Family Medicine Forum (FMF) and to participate in special events during FMF including a Medical Student & Family Medicine Resident Leadership Workshop and a special session with Canada’s Family Physicians of the Year. Each Medical Student Leadership Award consists of complimentary registration and $1000 to offset travel and other expenses to attend FMF in the Fall. Those unable to attend FMF will receive a $250 award.

CFPC Medical Student Scholarship Program

Awarded to a 4th year student from each of the 17 medical schools. Applicants will need to indicate a commitment or interest in pursuing family medicine as a career path are eligible.

Application Process: Application forms are available from the Undergraduate Office, MSB 110 or online at www.cfpc.ca/awards.
Award: All students selected as CFPC Medical Student Scholarship recipients at their own schools will be awarded $10,000. In addition, students will receive complimentary registration and funding up to $1000 to cover travel and other expenses to attend the Family Medicine Forum (FMF). The CFPC’s Research & Education Foundation supports these scholarships, with generous donations from Scotiabank and the CFPC itself.
Deadline: April 15. Awardee to be announced in June.
Selection: Applications will be reviewed nominee for scholarship will be made by a selection panel at each medical school. A National Selection Committee will evaluate each candidate based on the previous selection criteria and information submitted to CFPC as part of the nomination form.

Faculty and Residents

Faculty and resident Award

Students will be invited to nominate teachers at the end of their clerkship rotation. There will be a reference to the awards in the clerkship handbook, as well as an opportunity to submit a nomination at their exit interviews.   Students will be asked to write short submission outlining the reasons for their nomination.    The award nominees will be reviewed along with the clerkship student awards in September of each year.

The awards will have a monetary value as listed below and will also be represented by a plaque given to award winners as well as a plaque that will be housed in the Departmental offices in London. The names of the winners will also be posted on our website and be announced in our quarterly newsletter. Awards will be handed out at either of the Annual Education Retreat held in the fall or Resident's Graduation.

Adjunct Award
This award is given to an adjunct faculty member who has been identified by the students as providing excellent mentorship, clinical and/or classroom teaching during the undergraduate years.

Fulltime Award
This award is given to a fulltime faculty member who has been identified by the students as providing excellent mentorship, clinical and/or classroom teaching during the undergraduate years.

Housestaff Award
This award is given to a resident who has been identified by the students as providing excellent mentorship and clinical teaching during the undergraduate years.
Value: Complimentary Registration to Annual Clinical Day or $100
